SYDNEY (Tuesday 11th September 2012): Over 300 kids participate in this school holiday coaching program and event, making it the largest single grommet event in Australia. Big crowds are expected as the whole family accompanies the kids to the beach for BL's Blast Off presented by Hurley. 

Filled with an element of adventure and surprise each day, Barton Lynch's event will have varying breaks as options. Palm Beach is the main venue with Avalon and Whale Beach as back up venues.

The event features a unique format that focuses on coaching and performance improvement rather than wave scores. The kids are coached/judged by professional surfers and coaches.

World Champion surfers, Layne Beachley, Tom Carroll, Rabbit Bartholomew, Damien Hardman, Laura Enever, Harley Ingleby and Terry Richardson will all hang out with the kids at Blast Off and guest coach and judge a few heats.

All participants receive a show bag full of gifts. Division finalists win Hurley packs and incredible prizes from Electric, FU Wax, Contour Cameras, Beach Without Sand, Icon Jewellery, Future Fins, Native shoes, Skullcandy, Solid Racks, and a heap of other goodies from our supporting sponsors.

Unique Blast Off Art, Medals, Street Boardz and Chilli surfboards are all up for grabs, along with twenty two chilli demo boards on site, for participants and their families to ride and try.

BL's Blast Off continues to pay its respects to the Indigenous people of Australia by teaching the kids Koori dance with Terry Olsen and a traditional smoking ceremony.

Hurley, Electric, and Beach Without Sand host a free BBQ on Monday evening at the BWS shop at North Avalon. Here you'll see our main 'Ollie Comp' plus a heap of prize giveaway for the kids, with the opportunity to get autographs from Hurley Team riders.

"Blast Off Idol" is held at Palm Beach RSL on the Tuesday evening and is a raging success with a full house on hand to watch the kids show off their other talents. It also includes the presentation of the "Keenest Grom" Awards.

On Wednesday there is the ‘Fantasea' Palm Beach to Blast Off Whale watching cruise, enjoy a complimentary scenic ride on a Fantasea ferry out through the heads and to the Blast Off event site. This is the 5th year we have offered this opportunity to see our beautiful area from the sea.

The hottest new wax company in the world is FU Wax from Brazil and it has revolutionized the wax category with its super sticky, super grippy formula and is launching the brand at the BL Blast Off 2012.

BL's Blast Off 2012 has a strategic relationship with our mates at Surfing NSW and they will be assisting with parts of the running of this years event - it is going to be great to have them involved.

New to Blast Off 2012 are Contour Action Sports Cameras as the official camera of the event. Board Bog will manage the repair hub of BL's Blast Off, Beecraft are back to support it yet again, Future Fins will be on hand and Amazon Power fuels BL's Blast Off.

FUEL TV will air a 6 minute feature on high rotation for the month of December 2012, Surfing World Magazine are big supporters and Coastalwatch.com is again Blast Off's online partner.
