NSW Open State Titles 2013 - Open Women
NSW OPEN STATE TITLES GET READY TO HIT CRONULLA THIS WEEKEND
Tuesday, 5 February 2013
Cronulla will play host to some of NSW's best surfers when the 2013 NSW Open State Titles hit the southern Sydney beach this upcoming weekend.
Forty-eight men and 16 women will come from as far away as Ballina to compete in the hotly contested event, which includes former World Tour surfers Drew Courtney and Darren O'Rafferty.
Local surfers who have already entered include: Connor O'Leary, Rory Jenkins, Shane Campbell, Jared Hickle, Dane Durbin, Dylan Hannah, Joey Sear and former Australian champion Glenn Pringle.
Glenn Pringle said: "The last time I won a NSW State Title was 25 years ago."
"A good friend of mine, Scott Schindler and I are going in the event together as a bit of a warm up to the ISA World Masters in Ecuador in April. Scott only began surfing at this level in the last few years and winning the over-40s division in the VB NSW Surfmasters in 2012 was one of his first victories. Both of us are really looking forward to competing together again this weekend."
"There's four local kids in particular that I'll be paying particular attention too: Connor O'Leary has been surfing really well. Joey Sears and Rory Jenkins are another two who have been great to watch and finally, I think Shane Campbell will be someone to look out for. He's been really exciting lately and is on a steep learning curve."
$5000.00 worth of prize money will be handed out to the respective finalists in both the male and female divisions.
The winners of both the male and female divisions will be awarded a wildcard into the Newcastle Surfest - Burton Toyota Pro and Hunter Ports Womens Classic - which will take place from the 18th-24th of February.
The top four finalists in the male division and the top three finalists in the female division will score themselves an entry into the Australian Surf Festival which will be taking place at Port Macquarie in August this year.
There are no regional allocation or results required for this event. All surfers will compete in a straight knockout format. For further details, click here.
