Surfing SA's Midcoast Development Squad Term 1 2012

Description:

 The Surfing SA Development Squad will return in term 1 2012 after the success of the program in 2011.  Squads are open up to all under 18 surfers and are supported by Surfing Australia & the Australian Sports Commission. Squads will be divided into two or three groups and will work with a variety of Surfing SA coaches over the 10 week program.  Training will commence on Tuesday nights at 5.30pm – 7.00pm starting the 31st January at the Southport River Mouth car park with the option to move if surf permits & will go for 10 weeks. 

 The sessions are aimed at surfers who can stand up, trim along the waves & are looking to surf out the back of surf breaks. In 2008 the Girl’s Development Program received an award from the Office for Recreation & Sport for ‘Creating Elite Pathways’  so is now an award winning program & recognised as the best sporting development programs in SA!  The program will also be based on this set up. 

Sessions this program will include:

Ø  Training on streetboardz

Ø  Guest coaches including Dion Atkinson (World Tour Competitor)

Ø  Surf sessions

Ø  Surf fitness

Ø  Evaluation of surfing technique

Ø  Surfing information on local breaks etc

Ø  Participants all receive sample bags/prizes

  Surfing SA membership & insurance Training sessions are coordinated by Cheryl Peat, level 2 surf coach, state coaching director & Australian Surfmasters National Finalist with support from experienced coaches Jessica Ip (level one coach, past female surfer of the year & state champion), Dion Atkinson (level 1 coach & WCT surfer), Craig Potgieter (level 1 coach & former South African champion) & Tom Bowen (level 1 coach &current state under 18 longboard champion).  All coaches are volunteering their time to support the young SA surfers.

 Participants need to bring

Ø  Wetsuit

Ø  Water bottle

Ø  Sunscreen

Ø  Towel
