The Surfing South Australia State Longboard Titles presented by Mid Coast Surf were held at Middleton Bay on Saturday 21^th April 2012. Epic conditions with great waves greeted competitors all weekend which resulted in a high level of performance from all of the competitors. With a southwest ground swell around 2 to 3 foot with light offshore winds. Low tides in the morning produced some great waves with high scores. As the tide filled in competitors had to be more choosey with their wave selection. Rain set in after lunch but this didn’t dampen the spirits of the competitors. The open men’s final was a tough battle between, Craig Bonnett, Ben Jones, Tom Watson, and Adam Barley. With 1.5 points separating 1^st and 4^th, the final results were 1^st Ben Jones 14.3, 2^nd Craig Bonnett 13.4, 3^rd Tom Watson 13.2 and 4^th Adam Barley 12.7. This was Ben Jones’ first ever Open Title. Another hotly contested division was the open women's. Karen Riley stole the show with some great combinations of modern and traditional longboarding. Karen also took out the O/35 Womens Final. The final results of the Open Womens were 1^st Karen Riley, 2^nd Erika Oemecke, 3^rd Ellen Watson and 4th Lisa Jackson. The Most Outstanding Surfer award went to Adam Barley with a score of two nines in one of his Open Mens heats. Adam also produced some excellent nose riding throughout the day. The Encouragement award went to promising junior Lee Langmead. From the surfing displayed by Lee we can see that this lad will have a promising future.
