SA Junior Shortboard State Titles Round Three

Short Board State Titles

Monday, 7 May 2012

Parsons Beach, Victor Harbor Saturday 5th May 2012

Hit with your best shot for the third and final round of the Surfing SA Shortboard State Titles.

With competitors able to drop away their lowest score from one round the remaining two highest scores will determine divisional winners to represent South Australia at the Australian Titles in Port Macquarie in August and the Australian Junior Titles in December to be held in Tasmania.

Open mens maintained their history of highly competitive surfing and if you were not surfing to a high standard competitors would not get close to semi  finals.

The open mens semi finals experienced the last of big right hand waves with Khai Adams (Victor Harbor) posting a 10 point wave with aerial maneuver flagging his intention to a podium final.

Adams maintaining his momentum in smaller waves taking first place in open mens finals. Hot contenders, Brett Edwards (Stonyfell) nudged to second by less than one point closely followed by David Steele (Seaford) and Wade Gyns (Morphett Vale) in fourth.

Natural surf talent Elle Francis (Victor Harbor) took  first place in both the Under 16 and Under 18 girls divisions. Tayla Hanak close second in the Under 16 girls and Jamie Buchanan (Middleton] 2rd in Under 18 girls.  With rising talent in both divisions Elle Francis will need to maintain her advancing surf skills to stay on top.

Heroes of the day go to the Under 14 divisions who experienced double over head waves breaking on a shallow sand bar. Competitors may have thought they were in Hawaii but at under 14 you would have to be really nervous. Competitors were accompanied by adult surf caddies to ensure no one was injured but you still had to be very brave.

While Parsons Beach does produce high quality waves and is sheltered from certain winds it is not a favorite with the work crew. Coming down the steep hill is not a major problem it’s going back up. If you are carrying generators and heavy equipment and you have been on the beach for eight hours and near dark it is a mission. Thank you to volunteer parents for assisting in the recovery of equipment to the top car park.

Surfing SA wish to thank participating sponsors Coopers, Drug Aware, Liive Vision, Far King, Preeces Surf and Mid Coast Surf.
