With the best two out of three rounds counting for competitors, there are some very close tussles across all divisions as the state amateur surfing season draws to a close.
There is a four horse race for the open men's state championship between Teale Vanner (Kangaroo Island), Max Longhurst (Victor Harbor), Brett Edwards (Stonyfell) and Todd Goudie (Willunga).
All four of the surfers will need a strong result to have a chance of winning the overall state championship.
The winner of the open women's will also come down to the wire with Brinkley Davies (Hope Valley), Alice Gilbert (Goolwa), Grace McDonald (Goolwa) and Anjie Collins (Victor Harbor) all in contention.
The surf is looking large and stormy, so competition organisers plan to utilise the full range of the Fleurieu Peninsula to find the best waves.
“This is the most important competition for the year for a lot of our surfers, as it’s the final chance to gain selection for the South Australian nationals team, as such I am expecting there to be lots of action in the water this weekend”. Said Surfing SA’s Tim Doman.
“The junior surfers have been so impressive all year, last month at Yorkes they all stepped up to the challenge of surfing big waves, so this weekend will be another great opportunity to put their training into action”.
The South Australian State Titles are supported by Coopers Brewery, The Office of Recreation and Sport, Liive Sunglasses and Far King Wax.
An announcement will be made daily at 7AM sharp for the location of the State Titles, which will be left on a recorded message on mobile number 0437 714 492.
