Rip Curl Junior Challenge 2012

What an amazing weekend. After the Tasman Sea doing a great lake impersonation the previous week and forcing a postponement of the competition for the first time in 17 years, Huey delivered a pumping swell for the 2012 Rip Curl Junior Challenge. The first day saw the juniors surfing 2 metre plus waves at inside point at Four Mile Creek. I'm calling it the biggest junior challenge surf ever. The surf was big and clean pretty much for the whole day  and certainly provided solid testing conditions for the younger surfers. Highlights for the judging panel were when Gerome Bramich made a deep back-door barrel while free surfing just near us,  and Harry Bowe scoring a near perfect 10 point ride during the his 2nd round heat.

The finals were held at Dark Hollow on the Sunday and while a good ½ metre smaller than the first days surf it was a lot more user friendly, and we were fortunate to have some of the best quality surf and conditions that a contest director would be lucky enough to see. The glassy 1- 1.5 metre predominantly left hand waves kept on rolling in throughout the morning and the finals were all of a great standard with most of them producing some great rides and very close results.

Congratulations to all the Finalists. I would just like give thanks to the many people that make a successful event possible and to acknowledge the support of our sponsors and the respect and manners of all the local surfers who once again kept out of our contest area during the event and allowed the competitors free run of the best peaks.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS TO NIGE WHO ONCE AGAIN HAS PRODUCED A WONDERFUL WEEKEND - EVEN IF IT DID TAKE 2 TRIES!! (not his fault!)  A lot of happy faces during the presentations, even though the heavens had opened.

MORE THANKS to everyone who helped make our BBQ another success as well - great friends and excellent food - some of us are getting used to having gourmet salads, pavlova and apple crumble with our 'sausage sizzle'. Yummo again!
