Hamish Renwick takes out the O'niell South Coast Challenge

Hamish Renwick took out his second junior title of the year, the O'Neill South Coast Junior in clean 0.5 metre waves at North Clifton , Renwick drew upon his experience to make up for a slow start to edge out Tom Gray , Kyle Cooper and Jake Fasnacht. Despite opening with a 5 point ride, Renwick was pushed by Gray and notched up his winning 6.6 and 7.5 rides, with a solid forehand attack in the small right handers .

The win cements Renwicks' wildcard spot in the trials for the $145000 O'Neill Coldwater Classic, the second junior surfer will not be confirmed till after the Rip Curl west Coast Classic.

Tom Gray surfed back to back finals taking out the 16 boys will his solid backhand attack from Kelly Nordstrom, Jake Fasnacht and Luke Thomas.

The 14 boys saw Kelly Nordstrom take out his second 14 boys title for the year, from former Queenslander Sunny Gibbons.

Sophie Burke narrowly defeated Sophie Burke in the 18 girls , with Zoey Grey taking out the 16 girls from Lizzie Stokely.

Emerging surfers awards went to Inez Balon and Luke Thomas.

"It doesn't seem that long ago I was first seeing these kids learning to surf, the performance level has definitely lifted a notch or two and its satisfying to put on an event to showcase the talent of Tasmanian junior surfers. " Pat Fascnacht Contest Director.

The South Coast challenge was proudly supported by O'Neill, South Coast Surfschool, Redbills Surfshops, Stuart Gibson Photography, Red Herring Surf, La Porchetta, Freeride, FCS , Lauderdale Bakehouse, Creatures of Leisure, Stranger Surf, Jimmys Ski Gear n Surf, and Jetty Surf.

The next event on the Surfing Tasmania circuit is the Rip Curl West Coast Classic, held in the Marrawah area March 6-9.
