Solid conditions forecast for the 2010 Rip West Coast Classic

March 6, 7 & 8 th, Marrawah region , West Coast Tasmania

In 2010 the Rip Curl West Coast Classic enters its 35th year, seeking out the biggest and best waves in the Marrawah region, the event is totally mobile over 30 kilometres of coastline from  Arthur River in the south  to Preminghana (Mount Cameron) in the North.

Tassie’s best surfers will converge to compete in some of the most challenging surf in the state. The most consistent venue is inside the West Point State Reserve, at Lighthouse Beach which can hold waves  up to six metres .

The open mens division includes former state and west coast champs, including Jy Johannesen, Luke Bugg , Dustin Hollick, Ben Richardson , Luke Johannesen, along with local NW coast surfers Zeb Critchlow and Will Bakker. West coast female surfers include defending women’s West Coast champ Sarah Prior and current 16 girls state champ Zoe Grey.

The 2010 Rip Curl West Coast Classic has attracted a field of over 100 surfers competing in age groups from Under 16 to Over 50 legends, and also includes a specialty super groms division for Under 12’s who are  in the early stages of surfing ability and want to be part of the action.

As part of the 2010 Tassie State Series the top six open male surfers and top two juniors off the State series ratings after Rip Curl west Coast Classic, will receive invites to the Trials event at $145000 O’Neill Cold Water Classic. 

 

“The swell predictions are looking great for some challenging conditions at the weekend,  and the open field is one of the best in recent times,  we envisage running the bulk of the contest on Saturday and Sunday, with the finals on Monday, presentations will be held at the Marrawah Tavern. “ Glenn Saltmarsh Contest Director.

Meeting time is 7.45 am each morning at the Marrawah shop to notify of each days venue, a sign will be left for late comers.
