Rip Curl West Coast Classic

Rip Curl West Classic goes off in solid conditions at Lighthouse Beach

The Rip Curl West Coast Classic lived up to it reputation of throwing challenging waves at competitors with waves ranging from 1- 2.5metre offshore conditions at Lighthouse Beach over the three days of competition.

Jy Johanessen (Lauderdale) took out one of the closest open mens finals in years, posting and 8 an 9 point ride, to narrowly defeat Ben Richardson (Scamander), Zeb Critchlow (Marrawah) and Rupa Gibbons (Clifton). It was Jy's second successive win on the 2010 Tassie State Surfing series.

The Open women's division was taken out by Zoey Grey (Marrawah) who also
won the 16 girls and placed second in the 18 girls behind Sophie Bourke (Falmouth).

In the first time for several years the Junior and cadet divisions were surfed on the main break with second round and semi final heats being held in solid 2 metre conditions Hamish Renwick (Sandford) took out the 18 boys with Gerome Bramich clinching the 16 boys.

The emerging Surfer award went to Oliver Bowe, and the Macaronis trip prize was won by John Kohlemainen who passed the prize onto Zoey Grey.

The 2010 Rip Curl West Coast Classic was supported by Reef, Macaronis Resort, Dragon Alliance, Marrawah Kelp, Marrawah Tavern, Canoe n Surf, Red Herring Surf, Beach Beat, McGrath & Co lawyers, LSR Network, the Mobile Prickle farm, the Harbour houses, Flowerdale Flowers and Saltwater City
