Tassie wildcards warm up for O’Neill Cold Water Classic

Tasmanias wild west coast is gearing up for the O’Neill Coldwater Classic that enters its second year kicking off March 23, 2010 the $145000 World Qualifying Series event has attracted over 150 entries from all corners of the globe.
As part of the O’Neill Coldwater Classic , local Tasmania surfers have the oppurtunity to compete on home turf on the world stage, with a trials event , surfers qualify through the state series with the top two place getters obtaining spots in the main event.
In 2009 current Tasmanian open champ Dustin Hollick won the trials and continued into the main event, eventually being eliminated by former World Champion CJ Hopgood and picking some good prize money along the way.
Surfers qualify through the Tasmanian state series this years, through the opens are Jy Johannesen (Lauderdale), Zeb Critchlow (Marrawah), Luke Johannesen ( Hobart), Luke Bugg (Clifton), Ben Richardson (Scamander)Chris Potter ( Hobart), with Hamish Renwick (Sandford) and Tom Gray (Shelley Point) qualifying through the Junior Series.
