Open
Boys Surf Tour presented by Play it Safe by the Water is a program aimed at the young male
surfer who has passed through the learn to surf stage and who has their own equipment, i.e.
surfboard and wetsuit.
Base Boys Surf Tour is FREE and just above an introductory learn to surf class. All
participants are expected to be able to swim 200 meters and have the basic surfing skills of
being able to catch and ride an unbroken wave.
It is a skill development program that aims to help male surfers become more competent in
the open ocean environment and has as its goal the aim to help young surfers develop
strategies that will help them be safe in the open ocean environment and become better
surfers.
The aim of the Boys Surf Tour is to use positive male role models and professional surf
coaches from Surfing Victoria to pass on their skills and knowledge to the next generation of
male surfers.
Target programs will be conducted both within and after school hours, and will be offered to
schools and board riding clubs from the Surfing Victoria networks.
The program will be a joint partnership between Surfing Victoria, Life Saving Victoria and
supported by the surfing industry.
In addition to the obvious surf safety outcomes the program will also be used to promote SV & LSV programs such as the Victorian School Surfing Titles, LSV School Surf League and the opportunities that exist for teachers and board riding club members to access professional development programs such as level 1 surf riding coaching and community surf bronze.
