Play it Safe by the Water Surfing for Girls Presented by Oakley and EVO - Pt Leo

Sunday, 11 December 2011

(Pt. Leo, VIC - Sunday, 11th December 2011): Play it Safe by the Water Surfing for Girls Presented by Oakley and EVO has finished up at Pt Leo on the Mornington Peninsula today.

Over 40 girls were greeted with a small swell and onshore winds, but the conditions were not able to dampen the spirit of the girls.

The program, which covers the whole state, is all about teaching girls how to surf and be safe in the water this summer.

World Tour Surfer, Bec Woods, and stars of the First Love film, India Payne & Jess Laing, came down to the beach to lead the program and take the group surfing.

The program involved a water safety component, which included how to perform a simple board rescue along with a full surf lesson and tips in the water from the pros.

Woods was impressed with the eagerness from the girls.

"To have so many girls so keen to get out in the water when it was cold and windy is a credit to how strong the surfing community is on this coast. The girls were having so much fun, it was really good to see and a great way to finish off the program"

All of the girls received a prize pack for participating in the day, which included gifts from Oakley, EVO and Cancer Council Sunscreen.

Lily Nelson was the big winner of the random giveaway, which got her 50% off a surfboard purchase from the Global Surf Industries Range at Surf Shack, Lakes Entrance.

Oakley Sunglasses, Cancer Council Prize packs and stickers were also given away as prizes.

Surfing for Girls is a skill development program that aims to help female surfers become more competent in the open ocean environment and has the aim to help young surfers develop strategies that will help them be safe in the ocean this summer and become better surfers.

For just $20, participants will receive a day of surfing lessons, an Oakley t-shirt, show bag and surprise giveaways from EVO, Global Surf Industries and Cancer Council Sunscreen!
