Messy Conditions at Gunnamatta for the Victorian Open Titles Presented by Coopers!

(Gunnamatta, VIC - Saturday 27thFebruary 2009): The Victorian Open Titles Presented by Coopers was run inlarge, messy surf today at Gunnamatta.

 

With the large swell and dropping tide,conditions were challenging for all competitors.

 

Taking out the hotly contested Men's division wasPhillip Island surfer Carl Wright.

 

Wright was a standout throughout the day,impressing the judges with his committed surfing, taking off on the largestwaves of the day and performing massive manouvers.

 

In the final, Wright posted a solid 7.0 (out of apossible 10) ride and backed it up with a 4.07 to have a combined total of11.07 (out of a possible 20).

 

This was enough to defeat former World Tour competitorGlyndyn Ringrose (Phillip Island) who scored a heat total of 10.16 coming insecond.

 

Finn Barry (Apollo Bay) came in third on 5.93,while Cahill Bell-Warren (Bells Beach) came in fourth with 2.87.

 

In an extremely close final which ended up beingtied and won on a count back, the women's was taken out by Amy Stewart (JanJuc) who has returned to Victorian competition after a year long break.

 

Stewart amassed a heat total of 11.17 (out of apossible 20) along with local girl Georgia Fish (Flinders). The result beingdecided on highest scoring wave with Stewart scoring a 7.17 to Fish's 6.00.

 

Coming in third was Matilda McClellan (Pt. Leo)on 3.80 points and Kelly Laity (Sandy Point) on 3.50.

 

The Highest wave score of the day went to SteveNoble (Phillip Island) with an 8.67. Noble also amassed the highest heat totalof the day with an 8.67 and 8.00 totaling to 16.67 (out of a possible 20).
