Carl Wright and Amy Stewart the new Victorian Open Champion Presented by Coopers!

(Phillip Island, VIC - Saturday 6thMarch 2009): The Victorian Open Titles Presented by Coopers was held at thefamous Woolamai beach on Phillip Island over the weekend.
A small swell and onshore winds were on offer forcompetitors and with the low tide, conditions were challenging for all.
Taking out the hotly contested Men's division waslocal surfer Carl Wright who now after winning last weeks East Coast round, isthe state champion.
Wright was again a standout surfer at his homebreak, taking down other competitors with ease.
In the wave-starved final, Wright posted a solid6.67 (out of a possible 10) ride and backed it up with a 5.77 to have a combinedtotal of 12.44 (out of a possible 20).
This was enough to defeat former World Tourcompetitor Glyndyn Ringrose (Phillip Island) who scored a heat total of 11.90coming in second.
Derek Bassed (Sandy Point) came in third on 7.20,while Josh Johnson-Baxter (Ocean Grove) came in fourth with 6.87.
In a low key final with small scores and fewwaves, the women's was taken out by Amy Stewart (Jan Juc) who has continued herrun of results and now has taken out the Victorian Open Title.
Stewart amassed a heat total of 8.70 (out of apossible 20) with a 4.67 and a 4.03 wave scores.
Kelly Laity (Sandy Point) came in second on 7.66while Lucy Ruffy (Kew) placed third on 4.83.
