(Torquay, VIC – Thursday, 29th April2010): The Victorian Longboard Titles Presented by Coopers heads to Jan Juc onthe 8th and 9th of May bringing the best longboardersfrom around the state to compete for the prestigious title of state champion.
18 year old Adam Lynch (Highton) will be lookingto go one better than his second placing last year and take out the title inthe open men’s division. Regardless of being one of the youngest competitors inthe division, Lynch has already proved his abilities with his runner up placinglast year and making several heats at the 2009 Australian Longboard Titles.
However he will come up against some stiffcompetition in reigning two-time champion Sandy Ryan (Phillip Island). Ryan hasdominated the last two years, cementing himself as one of Victoria’s bestlongboarders. He also was the highest placed Victorian open surfer at lastyears Australian Longboard Titles.
Other potential threats include Michael Pinney(Pt. Lonsdale) who recently placed second in the longboard open division of theGlobal Surf Industries Noosa Festival of Surfing, and Jordie Brown (SkenesCreek) who placed 5th in the same event.
Another division, which has increased interestevery year, is the Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) Division. Victoria has some ofAustralia’s best SUP riders and with this being a relatively new form of thesport, there is no doubt the event will be one to watch.
Other surfers to watch will be the Lalor’s(Apollo Bay), with 5 members of the family competing in 5 separate divisions,Ben Considine (Barwon Heads) who recently placed second in the under 15 boysdivision of the Global Surf Industries Noosa Festival of Surfing, and Lucy Ruffy(Kew).
