May 2012 Update
Events just keep on getting better - note to Anthony: the hamburgers are a winner. Conditions were Arctic, but the point delivered some quality waves.
James Sinclair is hanging on to first place in the Open aggregate over threatening defending champion Dylan Schulze, with Tim Bennett close and Finn Barry talking up a late charge! Look out next event for high profile club champions returning to spice things up...
The juniors improve at every event, each surfer had their moment on Sunday, with heat and final scores increasing. Very close in all categories with a long way to go.
May results and aggregate are posted in the top right side of this page under 'Documents'. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for other updates. Plus our documented history is getting close to release.
About
Otway Boardriders has a strong history of nurturing competitive surfing on the Surf Coast and is based in Aireys Inlet.
We welcome surfers of all ages, running competitions in U14, U16, U18, Open and Masters divisions.
Club Membership and Fees
Otway Boardriders is accredited with Surfing Victoria. Our yearly club membership of $40 covers accreditation and insurance on club competition days only. Competition day fees are $10 per age group entry.
Surfing Victoria Membership
We strongly encourage our members to join Surfing Victoria as members to gain full benefits, rather than just competition day benefits. Membership is $40 per year and provides:
- Personal accident insurance when surfing at any time throughout the year
- Eligibility to compete in regional, state and national titles
- Surfing Victoria membership card and sticker
- Free entry into the RIP CURL PRO and other discounts
- It's easy to join online on this website
Competition 2012
In 2012 competition will be run monthly on the following Sundays between March and November:
- Sunday March 4th
- Sunday April 22nd
- Sunday May 13th
- Sunday June 3rd
- Sunday September 16th
- Sunday October 21st
- Sunday November 18th
Meet at 8am sharp at Skinny Legs Cafe, bottom shops on the Great Ocean Rd, Aireys Inlet, to register. We then choose a competition location. We have a 'mobile license' and run events at various local venues depending on conditions.
Competition is run in a constructive manner, where experienced competitors mentor juniors in all aspects of surfing and judging. The focus is on fun, participation, healthy activity and building friendships amongst local surfers.
Results and Aggregate System 2012
April 2012 results have been posted in the TOP RIGHT hand column of this page, under the heading 'Documents'.
Club and age group aggregate championship points are awarded for your best 5 out of 7 event results in a year. Points for each competition are allocated as per the Surfing Australia system:
1st 1000 points, 2nd 860, 3rd 730, 4th 670, 5th 610, 7th 555, 9th 500, 10th 488, 13th 450, 17th 400 and 25th 320.
