Surfing WA set to help Waves Surfwear in a community project to clean WA beaches
Wednesday, 7 April 2010
The Waves Clean the Beach Community Program was developed to create community awareness of the fragility of our coastline and to educate our youth in the importance of maintaining the health and cleanliness of our beaches for themselves and future generations to enjoy.
The only program of its kind, the Waves Surfwear Clean the Beach Community Program is run through Western Australian high schools and teaches students the importance of caring for their coastal environment for the benefit of the entire community.
Surfing WA love the fact WA school students are coming together to aid their environment. It’s local and therefore impacts beaches such as Trigg directly.
Students will each receive a Waves Clean the Beach Pack including trash bags, protective gloves, sunscreen and goodies from major surf labels, all in a Waves enviro bag. Coastcare experts will accompany each group through the day to provide additional supervision and guidance.
Surfing WA and Coastcare will provide a training session on their roles and the importance of keeping our beaches clean.
The next Clean the Beach will run on Friday May 7th, 2010 at Trigg Beach. If you would like more information on the Clean the Beach Program or you think your school may want to be involved please contact katherinep@wavessurfwear.com or check out www.wavessurfwear.com for more info.
