Surfing WA State Open Surfing Series
Event # 2 - Geraldton, WA 15th - 16th May 2010
Supported By Surfing WA, Surfing WA and the Geraldton Boardriders.
The second round of the Surfing WA State Open Series heads north to Geraldton this weekend, and looks to provide quality conditions for WA surfers, who are vying to to qualify for the Australian Surf Masters Titles later this year.
With average conditions in the metro coast lately, most competitors are looking forward to heading north to Geraldton to slipping in to some waves with size, shape and power.
The second round of competition is set to explode, after round one in Margaret River failed to deliver its normally great surf.
"Coming into the second round the ratings are really close. We've got so many WA surfers performing really well, that they're all pushing each other in the." Commented Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks.
It is surfers from the mid-west that will be looking to impress on home turf. A new bree of Geraldton surfers are coming through the system and having their first crack at open age competition. The likes of Max and Brady Marsden, Damian and James Fleming, as well as Kalbarri's Jesse Carter are all stepping up to the challenge of older, wiser surfers .
Gracetown's Dave Macaulay, will spreadhead the Open Men's division after finishing second at the opening round in Margaret River. Macaualy will look to defend his State Title in the division against fierce competition from Drew Everest (Mandurah), Jarrad Davies (Margaret River) and Sam Tucker (Yallingup)in the blue ribbon division.
"Its shaping up to be a really awesome weekend on the strength of the forecast, but every time we have an event in Geraldton we're always blessed with quality surf. Im really looking forward to watching it all play out when competition bounces down at Flat Rocks on Saturday morning." Said Justin Majeks.

These events provide competitors with the opportunity for State Team selection, possible wildcards into the Drug Aware Pro and the honour of being crowned the State Surfing Champion for WA.
