13th Annual Whalebone Classic - Cottesloe

The annual Whalebone Classic has attracted the strongest field of surfers ever in its 13^th year of competition. Reigning world longboard champion Harley Ingleby leads a star studded cast from the East Coast including current Australian Open and Qld State Champion Josh Constable, newly crowned NSW State Champion Dane Pioli who won this event in 2008, world no 17 Jared Neal (NSW), world no 35 Mitch Surman (Qld) and Qld’s Jackson Close rated 3 in Australia.

Not too be out done current WA State Longboard Champion Jarryd Foster and former Australian Champion Justin Redman will be keen to keep the Whalebone in WA, not to mention the likes of Dan Corbett, Brett Mason and Rahn Goddard who have impressed at WA state level this year. 

Event organiser Peter Dunn is thrilled with the caliber of surfer coming to this years Whalebone, “We only get to see many of these surfers on video or in the magazines, so to have them all here together competing at Cottesloe is unreal.” He Said. 

“We have also got a number of girls coming over from the east as well this year with our very own Jade Foster returning from Qld for the Whalebone, Australian Champion Rosie Locke from Qld and Melissa Combo (NSW) who has just won the All Girls Showdown at Lennox and the Crescent Head Classic in May is coming as well.” 

“But its not just about the pro competitors” Dunn continued “We have a full range of surfing for everyone with amateur divisions for all ages, the Star Board Battle of the Paddle for SUP’s and the much coveted Old Mal Whalebone where Jock Bahen will be going for a record 7^th title.”

With the event to be surfed at Iso’s Reef at Cottesloe Beach in WA, the 13^th annual Whalebone Classic has attracted a record number of entrys over the 2 days of competition. With over $40,000 in cash and prizes available this makes the Whalebone one of the richest longboard surfing events in Australia.
