About Surfest Newcastle AUSTRALIA 2018

Surfest Newcastle Australia 2018 is made possible through the support of Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota, the NSW Government through Destination NSW, crowd funding from the Newcastle business community, Orica, Newcastle City Council, nib, and Wandiyali ATSI INC. The event features international fields of competitive surfers in the Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota Pro (World Surf League Men’s Qualifying Series 6000 point event), the Surfest Women’s Pro (World Surf League Women’s Qualifying Series 6000 point event) and the nib Pro Junior (World Surf League Qualifying Series 1000 point event) along with a broad range of  complementary surfing events.

Surfest Newcastle Australia 2018 commences on 20 January 2018 with the Lake Mac Festival of Surfing and concludes at Merewether beach on 25 February 2018, where the male and female champions of the QS events will add their names to an enviable list of winners. Merewether beach is a recognised Australian national surfing reserve and home to festival patron and Australia’s most accomplished men’s world professional surfing champion, four-time world champion Mark Richards (1979-82). Mark Richards was voted by the public and peers as the most influential Australian surfer (1963-2013) at Surfing Australia’s 50th anniversary.

2018 marks the event’s 33rd anniversary and with over 700 national and international competitors from more than two dozen countries. Surfest Newcastle Australia is the largest festival of surfing in the southern hemisphere. Get up-to-the minute updates at surfest.comInstagram and Twitter.
