COMPETITORS MAKE THE MOST OF THE TRICKY CONDITIONS ON DAY TWO OF THE BIG 4 AUSTRALIAN BODYBOARD TITLES

Day two of the Big 4 Australian Bodyboard Titles got underway this morning in junky 1-2ft waves at Cabarita on the Tweed Coast with Junior Men’s quarter finals getting things going.

Jai Smith (QLD) and Liam Flanagan (NSW) were the men to beat, posting 14.50pt and 13.15pt heat totals to make a strong statement ahead of the Semi Finals.

Next to hit the water were the Open Men’s Quarter Finals as the tide pushed out on the south side of the headland, making conditions a little trickier.

Liam Lucas (NSW) went bananas in heat 3 to post the highest score of the round, punching out an impressive heat total of 15.00pts whilst Calen Jordan (QLD) again showed why he’s one of the favourites for the title with another strong performance, advancing with a 12.85pt heat total.

Justin Kirkpatrick (VIC) provided the wave of the day with an explosive roll executed at speed on a punchy little right-hand peak. He scored a near perfect single wave score of 9.85pts (out of a possible 10pts) to win heat one of round one in the Over 35 Men’s division to advance directly to the quarter finals.

The Open Men’s Drop Knee Division hit the water for the first time today and it was Gary Thatcher (QLD) top scoring in round 1 with a heat total of 12.25pts.

In the afternoon, the Open Women’s division got their heats underway with Millie Chalker (NSW) winning the first final in a tight battle with Rachel Summer (QLD), 9.10pts to 8.80pts.

The first of two Under 14 Grommet’s finals was run last up, Brandyn Cruickshank (NSW) winning another tight affair with a 9.45pt heat total ahead of Sam Giddy (NSW) with 8.60pts.
