HYDRALYTE SPORTS SHOALHAVEN PRO JUNIOR TO HIT CULBURRA BEACH IN MAY.

Aspiring professional surfers can look forward to another stop on Australasian World Surf League (WSL) Junior Qualifying Series (JQS) event thanks to the announcement of the 2018 Hydralyte Sports Shoalhaven Pro Junior.

The elite three-day event is slated to take place from to the 25 – 27 May 2018 at Culburra Beach and feature the best junior surfers from around the country as they attempt to seal themselves a spot in the World Junior Championship.

After taking out the Key Sun Zinke Pro Junior in Manly back in February, Caleb Tancred (Avoca) is eager to cement himself a higher spot in the rankings as he attempts to qualify for the upcoming 2018 World Junior Championship.

"Winning the Key Sun Zinke Pro Junior at Manly was one of the biggest wins I've ever had," said Tancred. "I set myself the goal of qualifying for the World Juniors and I hope I can cement a higher spot on the rankings when the Pro Junior event kicks off in Culburra."

Stepping up their already impressive investment into junior surfing, Hydralyte has come onboard as the naming-rights sponsor. The event in Culburra Beach will join the Hydralyte Sports Pro Junior on the Gold Coast, Cronulla and Bells Beach on an action-packed 2018 schedule for junior surfers.

“Hydralyte Sports is proud to be extending its association by the addition of a further event on the surfing calendar that supports Australia’s Junior Surfing Talent, and to be a partner in a sport that at its core promotes Health & Wellness amongst Australians,” VP Asia/Pacific Prestige Brands and General Manager Care Pharmaceuticals Jonathan Biddle.

Shoalhaven City Council Mayor Amanda Findley added: “We are excited to be hosting an event that is part of the Australasian World Surf League circuit. These events bring competitors, family and friends to the Shoalhaven in a traditionally quieter time, boosting visitation and supporting jobs in our region. The Shoalhaven is home to the current Surfing World Champion, Tyler Wright and is a breeding ground for future champions. Events like this support the growth of the sport in the region and help cement the Shoalhaven as a surfing destination.”

The Hydralyte Sports Shoalhaven Pro Junior comes only six months after the success of the 2017 Surf Dive ‘n’ Ski Australian Junior Surfing Titles which created significant mid-week visitation in a traditionally quiet period bringing $1,043,420 in economic benefit.

The Hydralyte Sports Shoalhaven Pro Junior will commence each day at 7:30 am with the call for the day's schedule and location confirmed via the event hotline at 6:45 am. The event hotline number is 0458 247 212 which will leave a voice recorded message each morning of the event.
