Luke Madden – CEO
Luke has been with Surfing NSW for over eight years in all aspects of operations from event management, coaching and judging management, sports development and delivering the events he once competed in. Luke is onsite at most Surfing NSW events from micro-grom to World Tour level, ensuring Surfing NSW’s high standard continues to grow. Madden took over as Surfing NSW CEO in mid-2016, replacing longstanding CEO Mark Windon OAM.
Mark Windon OAM - Executive Director
With both Level 2 coaching and Level 3 international judging Qualifications, coupled with 23 years as a Regional Director and 14 years as CEO, Mark has been at the forefront in the delivery of all Surfing NSW events & educational programs for over 30 years. Prior to his Appointment as CEO of Surfing NSW, Mark held executive management positions for some of Australia’s leading Transport and Logistic companies. In 2016 was appointed Executive Director on the Surfing NSW Board.
Ethan Smith - Media, Communications and Operations Manager
Ethan began working with Waves Magazine as a 19-year old in 2004 and was Editor when he left in June of 2012. Over the years he’s documented stories across the world for sports titles including: Waves, Tracks, Japanese Surfing Life, Wavelength and Inside Sport. Ethan joined Surfing NSW in September 2012 and currently handles all of Surfing NSW’s media and communications.
Claire Ellem - Sport Development Officer and PA to CEO
Claire’s love of the water began at a young age and led her to surfing in her early teens. While completing her Bachelor of Management in Sport and Exercise at UTS, Sydney she volunteered as an intern at Surfing NSW. Since 2014 she has assisted in all areas of the organisation from event onsite roles to business operations & is currently in the Sport Development & PA role.Claire has a passion for teaching water sports, is a qualified swimming and surfing instructor and an avid supporter of promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Adam Huban - Event Coordinator
Adam joined the team at Surfing NSW in 2016. He has completed a Business Degree majoring in Marketing and Sports Management including an internship with Gemba (Sports Marketing Agency). Previously, Adam was a senior surf instructor for five years at ‘Lets Go Surfing’. He currently manages the Surfing NSW calendar & organises the numerous schedule of events.
John Shimooka - Partnership Manager
John “Shmoo” Shimooka enjoyed a long and fruitful career as a professional surfer through the 80s and 90s, claiming multiple event wins and titles. Since the late 90s, Shimooka has held various management roles for renowned surf labels such as Oakley and Quiksilver and more recently managed an array of athletes such as Jordy Smith, Sunny Garcia, Craig Anderson, Michel Bourez and Laura Enever. Shmoo joined the Surfing NSW team midway through 2016 - after a lengthy stint at Boost Mobile – and will handle all Surfing NSW partnerships.
Grace Bambridge - Events and Office Administrator
An avid lover of all things water and sport, learning to surf at a young age. Grace has competed in many sports from surfing to football and everything in between. After completing her Bachelor of Communications degree in 2017, Grace has joined our team to combine her passion and expertise in sports, marketing and events.
Ben Hill - Events and Site Administrator
Ben started as an intern with Surfing NSW in 2016 while completing his diploma of event management. Growing up on the South coast, Ben is a huge lover of everything to do with the ocean and is passionate about ocean conservation. Ben left the Navy to be involved in the wonderful world of events and has jumped into event and office administrator and site manager roles.
Britt is the newest member of our team forecast to jump into the Office Coordinator Role at the end of July 2018. Britt's been part of Surfing NSW as a junior competitor and has come up through the pathway to compete at ISA Worlds. She is currently competing on the Women's WSL Qualifying series. Britt is a Level 2 Coach and has assisted in many roles within the organisation - she is a commentator at our events, Team Manager for the Australian Juniors & has assisted within the High performance realm. She is currently studying Media & Communications at Tafe & is an ambassador for Crohns Disease. She brings with her lots of team experience with surfing and events.
