Champions crowned at the 2018 Pups On Sups
Broadwater Parklands played host to a swarm of mans best friends as the 2018 Pups On Sups got underway for its second year. Dog-lovers and their best friends had an actioned packed morning with Sup lessons, yoga and a Sup race just some of the activities on offer.
Savannah Fitzsimmons defended her titles in 2018 as she took out the blue-ribboned Women’s 2km race. Fitzsimmon’s lead proved to be too great even for her dog that battled moments of excitement seeing it jump off the board. Not to be outdone was Olivia Hall who claimed victory in the Women’s 500m sprint race which was one of the most contested divisions.
Pups On Sups veteran Scott Kilvington claimed victory in the Men’s 2km long course after he had to negotiate a strong increase in wind. Joining Kilvington on the winners podium was Troy Hobbelen who out manoeuvred his fellow competitors to take out the Men’s 500m sprint race.
Australia’s Dog Whisperer and former World Champion tandem surfer Chris De Aboitiz came very close to beating his own world record of 27 dogs on one board. De Aboitiz did not get to the required target but still managed a commendable 22 dogs on his 17ft SUP board.
The real winners today were the dog’s whose behaviour was fantastic all morning as they had one of their best days at the park to date. With a huge array of dog breeds at the event, it was very much a dog lovers day out.
The event hosted prizes and giveaways from sponsors, and plenty of pet stalls / food vendors. Each dog registered received a free Gummi pets lead, and the team from Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ). $5 from every registration will go toward AWLQ.
