Top names prepare for tomorrow’s QCC Sunshine Coast Pro
Organisers are optimistic that a growing south swell will provide promising conditions for competitors in tomorrow’s Queensland Championship Circuit (QCC) Sunshine Coast Pro.
The Sunshine Coast Pro is the second of three stops in the 2018 QCC series and will see some of Queensland’s best open men’s and open women’s surfers battle it out for highly valued series ratings points towards a Queensland title, prize money and a wild card spot in the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour 2018 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Trials at Snapper Rocks.
The iconic event continues to attract some of the biggest names in Queensland, with ex World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour surfer Mitch Crews (Currumbin, QLD) set to throw on a competition rash shirt alongside younger brother and local shaper Alex (Tugun, QLD). The Crews brothers will go into this weekend’s draw as two of the favourites alongside 2017 Champion Thomas Woods (Burleigh Heads, QLD) and some of the Sunshine Coast’s best young local talent including Jack Reginato (Alexandra Headland, QLD) and Noah Stocca (Peregian Beach, QLD).
Reigning Queensland Open Women’s Champion Piper Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD) will be looking to better her fifth place finish at event one this weekend as she makes the trip north. Harrison will face event one finalists and top seeded surfers Ellie Brooks (Elanora, QLD) and Sasha Baker (Mudjimba, QLD) who will also be looking for a first placed finish this weekend to jump to the top of the leader board before the series finale on the Gold Coast.
Based on surfer’s best three of three results, the top four Queensland based athletes from the series will represent the state at the 2018 Australian Surf Festival on the Tweed Coast in August.
