The Surfing SA Development Squad will return in term 1 2016 after the success of the program over the past 9 years. Squads are open up to all under 18 surfers who are above level 3 in the surfgroms program. Squads will be divided into three groups and will work with a variety of Surfing SA coaches over the 11 week program. Training will commence on Tuesday nights at 5.30pm – 7.00pm starting the 2nd February at the Southport River Mouth car park with the option to move if surf permits & will go for 11 weeks. The sessions are aimed at surfers who can stand up (above level 3 surfgrom), trim along the waves & are looking to surf out the back of surf breaks.
Sessions this program will include:
- Training on streetboardz
Evaluation of surfing technique
Surfing information on local breaks etc.
Participants all receive prizes donated by Hurley & Surfing SA
Surfing SA insurance & membership
Training sessions are coordinated by Cheryl Peat, level 2 surf coach & Australian Surfmasters National Finalist with support from experienced coaches, Tom Bowen (level 2 coach & national semi finalist in open longboards) & Tim Yates (experienced surfer & level 1 coach). All coaches are volunteering their time to support the young SA surfers. There is only one way to pay this term & that is online, $228 for the 11 weeks.
