The Surfing SA Mid Coast Development Squad will return in term 4 2017 after the success of the program over the past 10 years. Squads are open up to all under 18 surfers who are above level 3 in the surfgroms program. Squads will be divided into three groups and will work with a variety of Surfing SA coaches over the 9-week program. Training will commence on Tuesday nights at 5.30pm – 7.00pm starting the 17th October at the Southport River Mouth car park with the option to move if surf permits & will go for 9 weeks. The sessions are aimed at surfers who can stand up (above level 3 surfgrom), trim along the waves & are looking to surf out the back of surf breaks.
Sessions this program will include:
- Training on streetboardz
- Guest coaches
- Surf sessions
- Surf fitness
- Evaluation of surfing technique
- Surfing information on local breaks etc.
- Participants all receive prizes
- Surfing SA insurance & membership
Training sessions are coordinated by Cheryl Peat, level 2 surf coach & Australian Surfmasters National Finalist with support from experienced coaches, Tim Yates (experienced surfer & level 1 coach) & Lachlan Schultz (level 1 coach & former junior state team captain). All coaches are volunteering their time to support the young SA surfers. Cost of the program is $188 & can be paid online via the Surfing SA website.
