Champions crowned at the Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps Presented By Wahu, South Australia
Seven new Woolworths Surfer Grom’s champions were crowned at Day Street, Middleton today. Fun 2-3 foot surf and great weather was on offer providing perfect conditions for the competition.
Imogen Elliot (SA) and Oscar Salt (NSW) were awarded the Woolworths Fresh Wave Award for being the Best and Fairest surfers of the event. They walked away with a $250 Woolworths voucher each.
The under 14 Girl’s division and a trip to the HPC went to Imogen Elliot who ripped all day dropping scores in the excellent range. “ I am stoked to win the trip to the HPC, this is the second year in a row and I have worked really hard this year to improve my surfing. The hard work is paying off and I can’t wait to go to the HPC next year. Thanks so much to Woolworths for putting on such fantastic event.” said Imogen Elliot.
The under 14 boy’s division went to Jay Pink (NSW). The HPC trip went to your King Cairns from South Australia. King who also took out the Under 12 boy’s impressed the judges with progressive surfing. “We are really excited to see some great talent coming through in our state and King aged 9 is an example of that. He is definitely a name to look out for in the future,’ said Craig Potgieter, Surfing SA CEO.
Another standout and one to look out for in the future was young Maia Taite who took out the Under 12 and the Under 10 Girls divisions. Other winners included Jerry Kelly Under 10 Boy’s and Ashton Crowley Under 8 Mixed.

Regarded as one of the major stepping stones in the development of young Australian surfers, the 10-event Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu caters for surfers from Under 8 to Under 14 and will be held in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, Western Australia and South Australia over summer. The prestigious event series will also return to Tasmania in 2017/18.
As an added bonus, the respective winners of the Under 14 boys’ and girls’ divisions from each event will receive an invite to attend an all-expenses paid, three-day Woolworths Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High-Performance Centre (HPC). For the South Australian, Victorian and Tasmanian events, the Woolworths Surf Camp prize will be awarded to the highest place Under-14 Boy and Girl who reside in that respective State.
Each entrant will also receive a Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu t-shirt for entering, plus a Wahu beach product and there will be plenty of Wahu beach games and giveaways at each event.
The Woolworths Surfer Groms Comps presented by Wahu have helped to launch the careers of many of Australia's most promising junior surfers with almost 800 children set to take part in the 2017/18 event series.
