This weekend camp is coordinated by Surfing Australia and Surfing Tasmania as part of their annual asistance package. The Skills Development Camps have been very popular over the years. Samba Mann has been very popular with STAS members. Samba is one of the top national coaches at the High Performance Centre in Casuarina northern NSW, just south of Tweed Heads. Samba competed on the QS for several years and is a highly skilled surfer/coach.
Surfing Tasmania has rdesigned it's annual coaching program, now running one major weekend in each region annually. It is not for beginners but surfers who can surf along the wall and perform manouvres but whom would benefit from top level coaching to grow their base skill/techniques. Every BRC has a small core of good juniors who will qualify for these camps. BRCS WILL SELECT THE PARTICIPANTS.The Scamander Camp is being split between NEBR and NWBR due to numbers but is limited to 10. The weekend will revolve around the Scamander Surf Life Saving Club facilities. Participants need to arrange their own accomodation. The days start at 8am and will run through to about 4pm. Sunday will finish early to enable those heading to Clifton Beach ample travel time. The fee is $50. All participants must be STAS members and can 'ENTER' online at STAS website like an event and do so by Wednesday March 20th 10pm
The STAS Junior Development Group recently had former national coach Martin Dunn in Hobart for a weekend. The weekend with Samba Mann is sheduled for March 23/24. This is the weekend immediately before the annual Schools Championships at Clifton Beach on March 26.
Invitation only for NEBR and NWBR members. Participants need to be STAS financial members $55 and pay the $50 Development Camp fee $50. Both can be processed from Surfing Tasmanina's website under MEMBERSHIP and EVENTS links.
