Marti Paradisis with first ever win !

MARTY PARADISIS WINS SOUTHERN CHALLENGE.
Tassie big wave surfer Marti Paradisis yesterday won his first ever surf comp; the Southern Challenge in memory of Paul Johannesen at 1 to 1.5 metre 'Rebounds' on South Arm in beautiful autumn weather. Marty and a group of others made a comeback to competition surfing largely due to the new Eddie Aikuai format used for the first time in Tasmania by Event Director Luke Johannesen. The format which proved popular with Open and U21 surfer...s offers surfers two 30 minute heats to build a score comprised of their two highest waves tallied from each heat. However, their higest score per heat is doubled for the final tally. This was the final round of the 2017 HIF State Surfing Championships. Marty scored two great rides in the opening heat of round one, an 8.16 and 7.17 for a final score of 23.48 .
Many thanks for the great sponsors: NVUS, Sport Co Kingston, SIN Eyewear, Lauderdale Tavern, Holic Wetsuits, Roaring Grill, Shapers Surf Accessories, Stu Gibson Photography.
Thanks to Head Judge Mike Schmidt and the judges panel: Felix Goward, Glenn Saltmarsh, Paul Richardson, Richie Hassett, and other volunteers.
