Tasmanian powerhouse South Arm Boardriders SABR survived a scare in the opening heat of the 2019 Nudie Australian Boardrider Battle Tasmanian qualifying event. North West Boardriders NWBR came out with all guns firing leaving some of the SABR big names floundering in the tricky onshore 1 to 1.5 metre conditions at Eaglehawk Neck. NWBR cleaned up Heat 1 with 28 pts and progressed straight to the final from SABR on 21.9 and PBBR on 16.5 in third. In the Requalifying heat Park Beach Boardriders PBBR surfed hard but could not cover the all-round strength of SABR who moved up a gear and progressed to the final with a win 28.6 to 24.8 pts. As rain set in at Eaglehawk Neck the Final of 1 hour got underway but NWBR could not match the full power of SABR who went on to record a great victory 25.8 to 13.7 pts. They now go on to the national final in Newcastle in February.
Some standout performances came from veteran Zeb Critchlow, big wave mystro Marti Paradisis, Rudy Davis, Shae Cadle, WSL QS surfer Lizzy Stokely and Alex Zadwadski
