All competitors MUST be current STAS financial members, life members included, and the required event entry fees paid up to be eligible to enter the water for an event. This is necessary for safety and insurance reasons. If you wish to enter a STAS event you must be a Tasmanian resident of at least 3 months or be able to confirm work contract, study/enrolment or property lease.

•        CODE of CONDUCT.

All STAS members are subject to Surfing Australia’s Code of Conduct as per the SAUS Rulebook and member policies on the SAUS website www.surfingaustralia.com

The Contest Director, STAS President and Executive Officer, (ANY 2), STAS are responsible for managing and resolving issues. All STAS members are subject to the penalties prescribed.

•        THE CONTEST DIRECTOR. They must be a current financial member and is permitted to surf in the event if the required forms and payments are completed.

•        The CONTEST HEAD JUDGE. They must be a current financial member but is not permitted to surf in the event they are judging/managing.

All competitors MUST complete their Event Entry, STAS Membership and pay required fees by 12 midnight on the Wednesday prior to the specified event. This allows the Contest Director and STAS officials to check seedings and complete the heat draws early on the Thursday. Heats are then be posted on STAS Facebook and website well prior to the event, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED! PLEASE NOTE: No late entries will be accepted! Competitors are strongly advised to avoid disappointment by entering well prior to entry closure day.  If you have an entry issue please contact the Contest Director of Executive Officer prior to entry closure!!

All competitors may only enter a maximum of ONLY 2 short board divisions; one as First Choice the other as Second Choice. This is to allow the Contest Director enough flexibility to run the entire event in a day/weekend in the best possible waves for all competitors.

STAS always will endeavour to offer all junior division surfers in an event the second chance draw or two finals format where possible. Open Mens and Women divisions will always have the second chance draw or double final format.  In certain conditions the Contest Director has the right to amend that offer and run a knock out draw.

Women will have the same opportunities as men in State Championship Events. In the double chance/requal format U12,14,16,18,21 and Open Womens Divisions will have two finals. In the knockout format women will only have one final. Masters Divisions will only have one final whichever draw.

Female surfers who wish to surf against boys/men for better competition can only enter the Open Mens and Womens Divisions, not under age divisions. Talented surfers wishing to enter more than 2 divisions as currently set as STAS Policy must make application to the Rep Committee for consideration.

•        WILD CARDS.

STAS and our Contest Directors have the authority to offer up to 2 ‘WILDCARD ENTRIES’ per division only if there is space in the heat draws. A heat cannot be expanded beyond it’s original draw.  The intent of this is to allow the Contest Director the flexibility to accept an entry from a local surfer or any other competitor/situation such as entering another division at his discretion. That surfer MUST be a STAS member, a permanent Tasmanian resident of at least 3 residency and pay the required entry fees prior to entering the water.

STAS reserves the right to postpone, shorten or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances ie, bad/dangerous weather, lack of surfable waves. Given many competitors travel hundreds of kilometres to our state rounds STAS undertakes to carefully consider conditions leading up to an event and call a postponement if necessary to avoid unnecessary travel and costs to competitors and families. Events may be rescheduled to the next available weekend where possible.

•        PRIZEMONEY.

Where prizemoney is offered it shall be divided equally between male and female competitors.

Each Division has a set number of State Championship rounds per year. The final ratings determine State Championships based upon the following formula…..Age, Open, U21,18,16,14, Longboard Divs – Best 3 out of 4 results or 2 out of 3 results,  SUPS 2 out of 2, Bodyboard 2 out of 2. If two competitors are equal on 3 events then the 4th   result will be counted. Similarly, if drawn on  2 out of 3 results, then the third round result will be counted. If still drawn, the Championship is a draw. If a competitor is disqualified in any round their points are cancelled for that round and allocated to the other surfers who move up one place.

•        REFUNDS.

STAS does not issue refunds for event entries.
