COOLANGATTA/QLD (Wednesday July 12th/2017):The Tweed Coast region shapes as the perfect venue for the 2017 Australian Surf Festival when action gets underway on July 29th.
National titles will be decided in Open Surf Masters, Longboard, Logger and Bodyboard divisions.
NSW Minister for Tourism and Major Events Adam Marshall said the 18-day event promises to provide an economic boost to the region.
“The Australian Surf Festival is the perfect fit for the Tweed Coast, which is one of the most spectacular surfing hot spots in Australia,” said Mr Marshall.
“The NSW Government, through its tourism and major events agency, Destination NSW, is proud to have secured this event for the Tweed Coast region for the next three years. The festival provides not only the chance to see some spectacular surfing, but also an opportunity for visitors to see and experience everything the region has to offer.”
In exciting news for the festival, bcu comes on board as a support sponsor of the event that will see more than 450 entrants compete for 32 individual national titles.
“bcu is proud to join other local businesses and Surfing Australia to support the longest running surf event in Australia and bring a great event to the region,” said bcu CEO Lyndon Kingston.
“It is great to see the community come together to host such a fantastic event, welcoming competitors to compete for a national title. On behalf of bcu, we wish everyone good luck!”
Destination Tweed General Manager Bill Tatchell said the region was the ideal location to host the festival and its interstate competitors.
