Changes to Victorian Open Series in 2018/19

Dear Open Competitors,

Over the coming 6 months, we will be making some changes to the structure of the Victorian Open Series to better align with the Australian Surf Festival and the selection of Open State Teams. After the final event of the 2018 series in September, we will be moving to a Financial Year schedule for the Open Series, starting with the 2019 Victorian Open Series in October this year at Bells Beach.

This will mean that we will be running two Open events on the Surf Coast within a few months of each other in 2018.

Moving beyond 2018, the first round of the series each year will be held at Bells Beach in October with the second and third round of the series to be held in between January and April on the Mornington Peninsula and Phillip Island.

The change will mean that state team selections that head to the Australian Surf Festival each year will be selected off the current year results (eg. 2020 State Team will be selected after the final round of the Victorian Open Series in 2020).

Due to the double up of series winners for the 2019 state team selection, surfers will be selected in rotating order starting with the 2018 series winners.

Surfers will be selected in the following order, with the total number of surfers selected pending the varying allocations announced by Surfing Australia each year.

The Rip Curl Pro Trials will also be changing into 2019 with a new format that will be released in the coming months.
