Pumping Surf for Day One of the Rip Curl Gromsearch on the Surf Coast

Victoria’s Surf Coast has turned it on for day one of the Rip Curl Gromsearch presented by Flight Centre at Jan Juc beach.

Clean 3-4ft waves greeted competitors at the consistent beach break for the opening event of the Australian Series which brings together the top 16-and-under surfers from around the country.

Manly surfer George Pittar put the entire field on notice in his Round One heat locking in an impressive set of numbers for the highest heat total of the 16 & Under Boys division, an 18.60.

“The waves were super fun out there” said Pittar.

“I was lucky enough to open up on a few of those rights and get some good scores.”

“I love coming down to Victoria to surf. There are so many options for waves around here and so much variety in the surf.”

“This is my last year competing in the Rip Curl Gromsearch so I am hoping to get a few results in the first few events and make the National final.”

Other surfers that stood out on the opening morning include Marlon Harrison (Coolangatta, QLD), Logan Steinwede (Central Coast, NSW) and Noah Clifford (Jan Juc, VIC).

Rip Curl Team Rider Louie Hynd attended the event and competed in the Rip Curl Expression session whilst hanging out with the groms on the beach.

The swell is expected to rise tomorrow with onshore winds for the remainder of the event.

Competition will resume tomorrow with a call to be made at 7:00am at Jan Juc. 12 and Under Boys & Girls are scheduled to be on first with all other divisions on standby.
