Rip Curl Gromsearch relocated to Torquay for Day Two due to strong winds
Strong onshore winds have forced a relocation of the Rip Curl Gromsearch presented by Flight Centre to Torquay Surf Beach on Day Two of the event.
The protected corner provided contestable conditions for the 12 & Under and 14 & Under divisions with some long rides at the popular point break.
Local surfer Jazz Wylie (Jan Juc) was impressive in her 14 & Under girls division linking a series of big turns to earn herself a spot in the Semi Finals.
“It was really tricky to surf out there” said Wylie.
“I couldn’t really find any on the point but got a couple of good lefts on the inside was able to find some good scores. I’m stoked to get to surf on the final day!”
“The Gromsearch is such a fun event, I look forward to it every year. There is always something to do on the beach and everyone is really supportive of each other.”
Other surfers that made the most of the conditions throughout the day included Isla Huppatz (Jan Juc, VIC) who earnt the highest single wave score of the day a 9.60, Ellie Harrison (Barwon Heads, VIC), Quincy Symonds (Tweed Heads, NSW) and Harry O’Brien (Lennox Head, NSW).
Onshore winds are expected to moderate tomorrow with the swell to remain consistent.
A call for competition will be made at 7:15am at Jan Juc for a 7:30am start. Please check surfingvic.com for schedule.
