Perth's premiere surfing event returns to the Trigg Point this weekend, with the Corsaire Aviation King of the Point presented by the City of Stirling attracting some of Western Australia's best competitive surfers.

Surfing has a rich history along the beaches of Trigg and has launched the careers of many of the state’s very best surfers. The King of the Point first ran back in 1982 and now boasts over $10k in cash and prizes.

2015 King of the Point and former Trigg resident, Luke Campbell (Margaret River) is excited to pull on a rash vest and compete at his beloved home break, after recently returning from a strike surfing mission to Africa.

"I've been surfing at the Point since I was six years old and in all kinds of conditions, so hopefully that works in my favour this weekend," said Campbell. "The field of surfers competing is really exciting and it's one of my favourite events on the year."

2017 Open Men's State Champion Jerome Forrest (Margaret River) will be another surfer set headline this weekends action. Forrest will lead a strong field of regional competitors who will challenge for the King's crown.

"The King of the Point is one of WA's biggest events and with so much up for grabs it should be great fun," said Forrest. "I didn't do that well in last years event so I'm eager to put my best surfing forward."

Many of the state's best young junior surfers are also preparing for their chance to claim a King's ransom this weekend.

Yallingup's Duke Nagtzaam is one of the top rated junior surfers in Australia currently, and has spent the majority of the year on the East Coast competing in World Surf League (WSL) events and his excited be home in WA.

"The past few months have been a great experience and I've learnt so much and hopefully I can bring a bit of that to the comp this weekend," said Nagtzaam.

Moses Le Grice (East Fremantle), is another West Australian surfers chasing the WSL Qualifying Series at the moment, coming off a best ever result at the Krui Pro QS1000 with a runner-up finish last month in Indonesia.

"I've got some great confidence after stringing together a few heats in Sumatra " said Le Grice. "I'm really looking forward to the event and there should be some fun waves on offer on Saturday."

Surfing WA is proud to join forces with Corsaire Aviation to provide WA surfers the opportunity to compete at this iconic cult event.

"I'm really stoked to be working with Surfing WA and supporting the local surfing community," said Corsaire Aviation founder Luke Wyllie. "Surfing has been a personal passion of mine since I've been a kid and I'm proud to continue that great association through Corsaire Aviation."

Surfing WA Events Manager Justin Majeks is looking forward to rolling out the biggest and best surfing event on the metropolitan beaches.

"We're super excited to be hosting this prestigious event on Perth's best surfing beach," said Majeks. "Thanks to the support of our key partners and of course the City of Stirling, we're able to promote the rich history of this event and the future stars of the sport."

There will be plenty of action both in and out of the water with heaps of activities and entertainment for the whole family all weekend long. As well as the surfing there will be surf market stalls, mechanical surfboards, live DJ's, surfboard demonstrations, and much, much more.

A positive swell forecast for the weekend will see competition kicks off on Saturday from 7:00am, with finals to be held on Sunday.
