Surfing Western Australia is thrilled to confirm the return of the Margaret River Pro to the World Surf League (WSL) World Championship Tour (WCT) calendar for 2018 and 2019.

Following speculation that the event may be dropped from the WCT, Surfing WA worked closely with the WSL and Tourism WA to secure a further two year contract extension.

The Margaret River Pro is a premier event on the WA calendar attracting the best male and female surfers in the world including Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, John John Florence, Carissa Moore and Stephanie Gilmore.

It has proven to yield strong economic and tourism results for regional WA, attracting local, intrastate, interstate and international visitors to the South West.

"It's no secret that there has been uncertainty surrounding this event and while significant changes within key stakeholders slowed the process slightly, we are ecstatic about the final result," said Surfing WA CEO Mark Lane. "The 2017 event really demonstrated the uniqueness of the Margaret River Pro, with access to three different prime surfing locations really giving the event a point of difference and variety for surfers."

"The support shown from the local community, the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River and State Government to make this event happen is a key reason for its ongoing success."

The full World Championship Tour calendar and confirmed event dates will be released by the WSL later this year. Stay tuned to for news, photos and updates relating to the 2018 Margaret River Pro.
