WA CLUBS READY TO COMPETE IN THE nudie AUSTRALIAN BOARDRIDERS BATTLE IN WEST OZ THIS WEEKEND

Six of Western Australia's best boardriding clubs are set to compete along the metropolitan beaches this Saturday at fifth event of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is the country's biggest grassroots boardriders event, involving more than 60 of Australia’s best boardrider clubs. Taking place across eight state qualifying rounds, 24 qualifying clubs will come together at the National Final in Newcastle in February to decide who'll be crowned Australia's best boardriding club.

After events in QLD and NSW, competition will be fierce and rivalries will intensify as WA clubs battle it out for $3,000 in prize money and a guaranteed spot into the National Final.

Clubs will nominate a minimum of six surfers to represent them in an exciting and dynamic one-day event format. Each club will consist of 1x Under-18 Junior (male or female), 4x Opens (3 males & 1 female) and 1x Over-35 Master (male or female) that will showcase each clubs depth of talent.

Defending event champions Margaret River Boardriders will spearhead an impressive field of clubs competing on Saturday.

Margaret River along with regional powerhouses Yallingup and Geraldton remain as the only WA clubs to have tasted success at the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle, but they'll be challenged by Scarborough, Trigg Point and Trigg Junior Boardriders' when competition gets underway on Saturday.

"Western Australia has a strong and well supported boardriding club system and it's clear that the clubs love the opportunity to compete and interact with each other," said Surfing WA's events manager Justin Majeks. "Surfing is typically an individual sport so when you have the chance to compete as part of a team it create this wave of support and camaraderie that is rarely seen in the sport."

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle will kick off on Saturday morning from approximately 8am at Trigg Beach with finals concluding by the mid afternoon. A maximum of 28 degrees is forecast for Saturday, with the action set to be red-hot in and out of the water, with summer-like conditions expected at Trigg Beach.

The nudie Australian Boardriders Battle is officially sanctioned by the World Surf League (WSL), which allows Australian WSL Championship Tour surfers (men and women) the opportunity to represent their local boardriders club at respective state qualifying events as well as the national final.

The purpose of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle program is to build the profile and capacity of community boardriders clubs Australia-wide.  In the past five years, Surfing Australia has invested over $750,000 into Surfing Australia affiliated boardriders clubs as part of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle series.
